A 15-year-old girl who was shot outside Perspectives High School on Chicago’s South Side is still in the hospital, as her family prays for her recovery and demands justice.
Doctors at Comer Children’s Hospital have not given a clear timeline for when she will be able to go home.
Pam Bosley, the girl’s cousin, shared that the medical team is working hard to help her heal. “Her mother is always by her side, supporting her as she recovers,” Bosley said.
The young girl, who was not the intended target of the shooting, loves reading, cooking, and spending time with her family.
“She loves life,” Bosley said. “But now, she is suffering because of what happened.”
Struggling with Trauma
The shooting has left the teenager deeply traumatized. Bosley fears that everyday sounds, like something dropping or a loud noise, will now make her panic.
“She shouldn’t have to live in fear,” Bosley said.
The shooting happened early Tuesday morning, around 7:40 a.m., just as the school day was starting. According to Chicago police, the girl was walking with another student near the school entrance when a black car pulled up. At least two men got out and started shooting.
Family’s Fear and Call for Justice
As news of the shooting spread, worried parents and guardians rushed to the school, hoping their children were safe. Bosley and her family, however, received a terrifying phone call—they were told the girl was being taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
“We were so scared. We didn’t know what was going to happen,” Bosley said. “She was at school. She was supposed to be safe.”
While the family is focused on the girl’s recovery, they are also demanding justice. They are urging anyone with even the smallest piece of information to come forward and help identify the shooters.
Pam Bosley, who tragically lost her own son to gun violence outside a church in 2006, knows the pain of losing a loved one to senseless violence.
“We fight for justice every day, but right now, our priority is helping her heal,” she said. “We will be out there passing out flyers, spreading the word, and doing everything we can to find the people responsible.”
Bosley emphasized that violence like this cannot be ignored. “You can’t just shoot someone, destroy a life, and walk away like nothing happened,” she said.

As the girl continues to recover, her family and community are determined to bring those responsible to justice. They hope that by raising awareness and encouraging witnesses to come forward, they can help prevent more tragedies like this from happening.
For now, the family remains by the young girl’s side, hoping for her full recovery and a future where she can feel safe again.
