A tragic incident has shaken the Southeast neighborhood of Washington, D.C. On Sunday evening, December 22, 2024, the Metropolitan Police Department responded to a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a young man.
The incident happened around 7:27 p.m. on the 2200 block of Q Street, Southeast. Police officers from the Sixth District rushed to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found a young man who had been shot. He was unresponsive and showed no signs of breathing. Emergency responders from DC Fire and EMS quickly assessed the situation but, sadly, determined there were no signs of life. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The young man has been identified as 19-year-old Carmelo Green, a resident of District Heights, Maryland. His death has left the community in shock and mourning as authorities work to uncover the details surrounding this heartbreaking incident.
The Metropolitan Police Department is urging anyone with information about what happened to come forward. To incentivize cooperation, a reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this violent crime.
