Los Angeles, CA – Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the brutal beating of a man near Los Angeles’ Carthay neighborhood. The violent assault, which was captured on video, has sparked community outrage and prompted a police investigation.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the attack occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of San Vicente Boulevard and McCarthy Vista. Authorities say a group of 20 to 30 bicyclists, all between 16 and 18 years old, attacked the man after he confronted them for allegedly damaging his car.
Shocking Video Evidence
A widely circulated video of the attack shows the teens repeatedly punching and kicking the victim, who is seen on the ground trying to shield himself from the blows. Witnesses described the attack as relentless and unprovoked.
Dimitri Kermani, a bystander who saw the incident unfold, stated, “It was extremely violent. They were kicking him in the head and body with no regard for his life.”
By the time officers arrived, the mob had fled the scene on bicycles, heading southbound on Carrillo Drive.
Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
The victim, identified as Maurice Benaim, sustained visible injuries but is expected to recover. Following an investigation, two of the suspects were arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Due to their age, their names have not been released.
