A Florida woman is in critical condition after being attacked during a suspected home invasion on Friday. Local authorities report that 85-year-old Lucy Pat Curl was targeted by a man who knocked on her door, claiming to be a “community service officer.” He told her that he needed to inspect her home. When Curl asked for his credentials, he showed her his driver’s license but then forced his way inside the house and attacked her.
After the attack, Curl’s husband, William Curl, found her severely beaten after hearing her honking the car horn for help in the garage. William immediately called 911. Lucy was rushed to the hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
The suspect was later identified as 55-year-old Ronald D. Davis. Police arrested him after finding him sleeping in a shed several miles from the Curl’s home. Davis has been charged with home invasion robbery with a weapon, aggravated battery with a weapon, and aggravated battery on a person over 65, causing great bodily harm. Authorities also learned that Davis had been released from prison in June after serving 15 years for burglary and robbery.
Neighbors of the Curl family are devastated by the attack. Lucy and her husband are well-known in their community and serve with the First Baptist Church of Orlando. They are admired for their kindness and community service. One neighbor described Lucy as a “beacon” in the neighborhood, and others shared how heartbroken they are over the incident. “She was a wonderful lady, a great Christian, and a pastor’s wife,” one neighbor said.
At a church service over the weekend, the church’s senior pastor, David Uth, expressed his grief, sharing how Lucy Pat has played an important role in the church, playing the piano for funerals, weddings, and other services. Uth described the Curl family as caring and always ready to help others.
Davis is facing serious charges for his actions. His violent behavior has shocked the community, leaving many angry and upset over the harm caused to an elderly, beloved woman. The community continues to pray for Lucy’s recovery and hopes for justice to be served.
