Bronx, N.Y. – A chilling display of indifference has shocked the Bronx community after a man accused of murdering his girlfriend and stuffing her body into a suitcase was seen grinning while in police custody.
Authorities arrested 46-year-old Junior Perez Diaz on Friday for allegedly killing 26-year-old Pamela Alcantara. According to police sources, surveillance footage captured Diaz carrying a red suitcase into a Morris Avenue apartment. The same suitcase was later found discarded along the Saw Mill River Parkway on Thursday morning—its gruesome contents revealed to be Alcantara’s remains.
On Friday night, detectives escorted Diaz from the 46th Precinct stationhouse in handcuffs as furious onlookers hurled insults at him. Though he remained emotionless at first, Diaz appeared to smile once placed in the back of a police vehicle, stunning witnesses. “What is he smiling about?” one outraged bystander demanded.
Alcantara’s family reported her missing on March 2. Surveillance footage showed her entering her Morris Avenue apartment but never leaving. According to neighbors, she led a routine life, splitting time between work, church, and home.
Law enforcement sources disclosed that Alcantara had been in an on-and-off relationship with Diaz, but she had recently decided to leave him for good. This decision, they suspect, triggered his alleged deadly actions. However, officials have yet to confirm how Alcantara was killed.
Diaz now faces charges of murder, manslaughter, and kidnapping.
As investigations continue, community members mourn Alcantara’s tragic fate, demanding justice for the young woman whose life was cut short.
