A tragic case in California has been reported where an infant died due to listeria infection, part of a broader outbreak associated with certain ready-to-eat meat and poultry products by Yu Shang Food of South Carolina. This outbreak has led to a recall of the implicated products as health officials respond to the rising case numbers.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the outbreak has affected eleven people across four states, with the majority of cases occurring in California. Among the affected, nine individuals have been hospitalized, indicating the severity of the outbreak. The states reporting cases include California with seven infections, Illinois with two, and New York and New Jersey with one each.

Details about the infant, including the specific locality within California, were not disclosed by health authorities. The CDC and local health departments continue to investigate the outbreak and work to ensure the recall effectively removes all potentially contaminated products from consumption to prevent further illnesses.
