Bluesky Gains 1.25 Million Users After U.S. Election as People Seek New Social Media Options

Bluesky, a new social media app, has seen a huge boost in users, gaining over 1.25 million new accounts in just one week. This increase comes right after the U.S. presidential election, showing that some people are shifting away from their usual social media habits.

Bluesky has made a name for itself as an alternative to other big apps like X (formerly known as Twitter) and Meta’s Threads. Most of Bluesky’s new users are coming from the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., the company shared. Bluesky’s CEO, Jay Graber, said they’re excited to welcome everyone looking for a better social media experience.

Even though Bluesky’s user base is growing, it’s still small compared to its competitors. While Bluesky now has 15.2 million users, X and Threads are much bigger. Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, recently said Threads has nearly 275 million monthly users, and Musk claimed X had 600 million users back in May.

Bluesky started back in 2019 as part of Twitter when Jack Dorsey was still CEO. It became an independent company in 2021 and has yet to make money through ads. Dorsey, however, is no longer involved with Bluesky.

Bluesky is catching the attention of journalists, politicians, and news lovers, many of whom see it as a better alternative to X and Threads. Some new users said they joined Bluesky because they were unhappy with Musk’s support for Donald Trump and the way X was handling things.

This isn’t the first time Bluesky has seen a big surge in users. The app gained 2 million new accounts in September after X was suspended in Brazil for not following local content rules.

Bluesky’s growth is a sign that people are looking for new options in the social media world, and this app is getting attention as a fresh alternative.
