An 18-year-old woman from Twin Falls, Idaho, was arrested after a heartbreaking discovery at a hospital in Blackfoot. Last month, the body of a newborn baby was found in a Safe Haven Baby Box at Grove Creek Medical Center. The baby was wrapped in a blanket, with the placenta still attached. Sadly, the infant had already passed away before being placed in the box.
The police said that the teen, named Angel N. Newberry, was arrested on a felony charge for failing to report the baby’s death to authorities. In Idaho, the Safe Haven Baby Box allows parents to anonymously leave a healthy newborn (under 30 days old) without facing legal trouble. However, the box is not meant for babies who are harmed or already deceased, which is why the situation has raised so many questions.
The hospital responded quickly when an alarm went off, signaling that a baby had been placed in the box, but by the time they arrived, it was too late. The police are still investigating and might press more charges in the future.
This tragic event occurred in the state’s only Safe Haven Baby Box, though a second one is expected to be installed next year.
In another unexpected story, a Texas mom, Marisa Christie, experienced a life-threatening complication just after giving birth to triplets. She flatlined several times, causing her to be unconscious for a week. When she woke up, she discovered that she had given birth to three baby girls. It was a shocking twist in a difficult situation, but thankfully, Marisa and her babies are okay now.
