Zayn Malik recently played his first concert since the tragic death of his former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne, and it was an emotional moment. Liam passed away in October after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31 years old.
At his show in Leeds, England, Zayn paid tribute to Liam by ending the concert with the message, “Liam Payne 1993-2024 Love you bro,” shown on the screen. Fans who attended shared how moved they were, with one person saying, “Zayn Malik’s tribute to Liam Payne while playing ‘Stardust’ made me cry.”
Zayn had originally postponed his tour after Liam’s death. He shared on Instagram, “Given the heartbreaking loss, I’ve decided to delay the U.S. leg of the STAIRWAY TO THE SKY tour. The new dates will be in January, and your tickets will still be valid. Thank you for your understanding.”
Zayn, along with Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan, also released a statement about Liam. They said, “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. We need some time to grieve, but we will share more when we’re ready. Our memories of him will stay with us forever. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the fans who loved him just like we did. We will miss him terribly. We love you, Liam.”
The members of One Direction, along with friends and family, gathered recently to say goodbye to Liam at his funeral.
In 2015, One Direction announced they were taking a break, and it was around that time that Zayn decided to leave the group.
