Daddy Yankee Announces Divorce After 20+ Years of Marriage

Share news:

After more than 20 years together, Daddy Yankee, whose real name is Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, and his wife Mireddys González are calling it quits. The Puerto Rican superstar shared the emotional news on Monday, December 2, through his Instagram stories.

“With a heart full of respect and honesty, I want to share an important update about my personal life,” he began. “After more than two decades of marriage and many months of trying to save it, my lawyers are now responding to the divorce request filed by Mireddys.”

The reggaeton legend, who met Mireddys in high school and shares two grown children with her, opened up about the difficult process. He credited his faith in Christ as his anchor during this challenging time, explaining, “This is not an easy moment, but I understand it’s part of life. I need to accept it and move forward while protecting my stability, my children, and everything we’ve built together over the years. I deeply thank everyone who has been part of this journey and kindly ask for privacy during this process.”

Yankee also expressed respect for Mireddys’ decision, reflecting on their years together with gratitude. “I’m thankful for the time we shared, full of blessings, love, and values, and for the beautiful family we created, which will always remain our priority.”

Known for being more than just his partner, Mireddys also played a key role in Daddy Yankee’s career. As his manager and CEO of El Cartel Records, she was instrumental in shaping the reggaeton icon’s success. Yankee himself once told Billboard, “She’s the boss. She’s always been the boss.”

The unexpected news comes just two months after the announcement that Concord, a major independent music company, acquired a significant part of Daddy Yankee’s music catalog. This includes hits like “Gasolina,” “Con Calma,” and his feature on the global smash “Despacito.”

In recent years, Daddy Yankee has been open about a personal transformation rooted in his faith. During his farewell concerts in Puerto Rico at the end of 2022, he shared a deeply personal message with his fans. “For a long time, I tried to fill a void in my life, a space that nothing could complete,” he confessed. “I often pretended to be happy, but something was missing. Those days are over. Someone was able to fill that emptiness—God. I realized that I was nothing without Him.”

As Daddy Yankee navigates this new chapter of his life, fans are reminded of his resilience and his ability to find strength in faith, even during the toughest times.
