Queen Camilla, 77, will miss an important event in the U.K. this week because she’s still dealing with the aftereffects of a chest infection. Buckingham Palace confirmed that the queen consort won’t be attending the ceremonial welcome for Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, which is set to take place on Tuesday. The reason for her absence is a lingering lack of energy from her recent illness.
Camilla had been scheduled to greet the emir alongside King Charles III at the Horse Guards Parade, followed by a carriage procession. But with her energy levels still recovering, she will not be present. Instead, Prince William and Princess Kate will take her place to welcome the emir before the parade.
Although Camilla is skipping this key event, she’s expected to attend a lunch at Buckingham Palace later on in the day.
This isn’t the first time Camilla has had to pull back from public duties. Just a month ago, she had to cancel her engagements due to the chest infection. At that time, Buckingham Palace said she needed rest, and they didn’t share many details about her condition.
The queen consort appeared to be recovering a bit after her illness, as she hosted a reception for the Booker Prize nominees in mid-November. But it looks like she’s still taking it easy as she gradually returns to her royal duties.
