The Special Investigative Service has launched an investigation into a troubling attack on journalists from Media that happened on December 7, 2024, on Griboedov Street in Tbilisi. According to the agency, a journalist and a cameraman were assaulted, and officials are now working hard to figure out exactly what happened and who’s responsible.
Right after the report came in, investigators jumped into action. They’ve been piecing together the movements of those involved—both before and after the attack—by carefully studying the crime scene and nearby areas. To do this, they’ve collected video footage from security cameras across multiple streets, including Griboedov Street, Brothers Zubalashvili Street, Besiki Street, M. Laghidze Street, Al. Chavchavadze Street, and Shota Rustaveli Avenue. They even pulled footage from the Conservatory and five private locations nearby.
Investigators aren’t stopping there. They’ve also asked for video recordings from other businesses and public places to get a clearer picture of what happened.
The day after the attack, on December 8, 2024, officers acted on a tip shared during a TV broadcast. They searched the home of someone identified as G.L., who is suspected of being involved. During the search, they seized G.L.’s mobile phone, which is now being thoroughly examined. Experts at the Levan Samkharadze National Forensic Bureau are working to recover any data from the phone that could help in the case. Both G.L. and a family member have already been questioned.
Another person, L.T., who was mentioned in the media as potentially being at the scene, has been called in for questioning as well.
Investigators are also diving into mobile data, working with cell phone companies to analyze signals from nearby towers. This will help them track where the people of interest were during the time of the attack.
Meanwhile, the injured journalist and cameraman are being medically evaluated to assess their condition.
The Special Investigative Service is determined to uncover the truth. They’re gathering evidence, questioning witnesses, and doing everything they can to identify and bring those responsible to justice. The investigation is ongoing, and the agency has promised to keep working tirelessly until the case is solved.
