Police believe her boyfriend, 37-year-old LeDarren Tilley, is responsible for her murder. Taterea, just 32 years old, had been missing since December 2. Her body was found with gunshot wounds, dressed only in a shirt, underwear, socks, and one shoe. The investigation began after her mother reported her missing on December 3, concerned when Taterea didn’t respond to calls or messages. Police conducted a welfare check at her Arlington home but found no sign of her.
When questioned, Tilley told officers he last saw Taterea leaving her house alone. However, her children shared a different version of events. They told their grandmother that both Taterea and Tilley left the house together on December 2, but only Tilley returned the next morning to take them to school. Tilley claimed Taterea was with someone else and wouldn’t be available, which conflicted with what he initially told police.
The children also revealed that Tilley often carried a gun and that there was a history of domestic violence between him and their mother over the past few months. Video evidence showed Tilley driving to and from the field where Taterea’s body was found, even though he claimed he went straight to his father’s house in Dallas that night. He admitted he was the only one driving his white Chevrolet Tahoe during that time.
Police say the children’s statements, Tilley’s inconsistent story, and the video evidence made his involvement clear. He has since been arrested and is being held at the Tarrant County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
