A Miramar police officer, George Richardson, was fired on Wednesday after being arrested for serious child sex charges. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office took him into custody following an investigation that revealed he had coerced a child into performing sexual acts.
Richardson is facing multiple charges, including using a child in a sexual performance, soliciting minors inappropriately, and harmful communication with a minor.
While the details of his actions are still coming to light, the arrest warrant indicates that he allegedly encouraged a child to masturbate for him during a FaceTime video call.
Having served as an officer in the Miramar Police Department for three years, Richardson’s arrest has sent shockwaves through the community.
Miramar Police Chief Delrish Moss expressed his deep disappointment with Richardson’s actions, stating, “When an individual sworn to uphold the law finds himself accused of violating that sacred oath, it not only undermines their personal integrity but also casts a shadow over the entire profession.”
He emphasized that trust in law enforcement is crucial, and any betrayal of that trust is unacceptable.
The police department is working closely with the sheriff’s office to ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted. It’s not clear yet whether Richardson has paid a proposed bond of $25,000 or if he is still in jail.
Chief Moss also highlighted the importance of supporting the alleged victim during this difficult time, stating that the Miramar Police Department is committed to providing all necessary assistance.
This troubling incident has raised significant concerns about accountability and the protection of vulnerable individuals within the community.
