The student made a false claim that bombs had been planted in an Ohio middle school and high school.
In a shocking turn of events, an elementary school student in Ohio is facing serious consequences after allegedly making bomb threats against two local schools. The young girl, a third grader, used a fake Facebook account to claim bombs had been planted at Clearview High School and Durling Middle School, according to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.
The threats led to a full-scale response from authorities, including the FBI, who worked alongside local law enforcement to investigate. Schools across the Clearview Local School District shut down on Thursday, December 12, as a precaution. Thankfully, no explosives were found, and classes resumed the following day, leaving many in the community stunned.
What’s even more surprising is that the girl reportedly admitted to not just this incident, but also to making a similar threat back in September. She has now been charged with inducing panic—a serious offense, even for someone so young. Her parents, however, have not been charged.
In addition to the criminal charge, the girl has been referred to the Hamilton County Juvenile Court Assessment Center. This facility, based in Cincinnati, focuses on helping kids avoid becoming deeply involved in the juvenile justice system, offering intervention and support instead of just punishment.
Community members are struggling to wrap their heads around the situation. Jacob Kyle, a coach at Durling Middle School, told local reporters, “I couldn’t believe it. A kid that young making bomb threats? It’s hard to even process.” He also expressed concern about how children are using social media these days, saying, “It’s upsetting to think someone so young could access platforms like that and make such dangerous claims.”
A parent of a Durling student, who preferred to stay anonymous, shared her thoughts as well. “It’s heartbreaking,” she said. “Parents really need to be more involved in what their kids are doing online.”
The case has sparked a larger conversation in the community about the influence of social media and the importance of monitoring kids’ online activities. While the schools are back to normal, the incident serves as a sobering reminder of how easily things can spiral out of control—even when the person responsible is just a child.
