In Gwinnett County, Georgia, a late-night 911 call led to a tense confrontation between police and an armed man. Here’s what happened:
Just before midnight on Sunday, someone called 911 to report hearing gunshots coming from a house on Holland Drive, in the 3600 block. When officers arrived, they could hear people arguing inside the home. As they prepared to approach, a man stepped out the front door, and things quickly took a dangerous turn.
According to investigators, the man was holding a handgun when he came outside. A uniformed police officer, standing in the front yard, identified himself. But instead of cooperating, the man reportedly pointed his gun at the officer.
Fearing for his safety, the officer fired a single shot, hitting the man. Emergency medics were called to the scene and rushed him to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, he is expected to recover from his injuries. Once he’s out of the hospital, officials say he’ll face charges, though they haven’t shared what those charges might be or released his name yet.
The Gwinnett County Police Department’s Deadly Force Investigation Team is now looking into what exactly happened. They’re also working to figure out the details of the argument inside the home that sparked the initial 911 call. So far, those details remain unclear.
