Tragedy struck Tuesday night in Towson, a Baltimore suburb, as a mass shooting left one person dead and nine others injured. The incident, which also involved a dramatic car fire, unfolded around 7:15 p.m. on Loch Raven Boulevard, according to Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough.
Police responded to reports of a shooting and discovered a chaotic scene near a funeral home. A vehicle was overturned and engulfed in flames, and several people had been shot. While authorities haven’t released the name of the person who lost their life, they confirmed that nine others were injured. Their conditions remain unclear.
Chief McCullough described the situation as a mass shooting, but investigators believe this wasn’t random. Early findings suggest the attack was targeted, and those involved likely knew each other. He assured the community that there is no ongoing threat but emphasized the importance of uncovering what led to this tragic event.
“We don’t see incidents like this often in Baltimore County,” McCullough said. “We’re committed to leaving no stone unturned and dedicating every resource to solve this case.”
Adding to the investigation’s gravity, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives joined local police at the scene. The Baltimore County Fire Department also responded to assist with the car fire.
Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski echoed the community’s shock. “This is heartbreaking and deeply unsettling for everyone here,” he said. “Baltimore County rarely experiences tragedies like this, and we’re making sure our police and fire departments have everything they need to bring this investigation to a close.”
As authorities work tirelessly to piece together the events of that night, the community of Towson remains shaken but united in seeking answers.
