Jealousy Turns Fatal: Soldier Accused of Killing Man in Ex-Girlfriend’s Bed

A tragic incident unfolded at Fort Eisenhower in Augusta, Georgia, where a man is facing murder charges after reportedly shooting another man he found in bed with his ex-girlfriend, who is also the mother of his child.

The suspect, 25-year-old Natravien Landry, a soldier with the Army National Guard, is accused of killing Sgt. Andre S. Stewart Jr. on Saturday morning. According to investigators, the shooting happened inside a home on the Fort Eisenhower base. Stewart, who had been shot in the chest, was rushed to the hospital but passed away about an hour later.

Authorities pieced together the timeline of events through gate records and witness accounts. Landry arrived at Fort Eisenhower around 4:45 a.m. to report for drill duty but was dismissed by 7 a.m. From there, he drove to his ex-girlfriend’s on-base home, arriving shortly after 7:15 a.m.

The woman told investigators that she had been in a romantic relationship with Stewart and that Landry had become jealous. She and Stewart were asleep in her bedroom when she woke up to a commotion and saw Landry standing in the doorway. She said she tried to talk to him, but as she turned away, she heard a gunshot.

Witnesses at the home said that before entering, Landry had confronted one of the woman’s relatives outside, asking about a truck parked in the driveway. He then forced his way inside after the relative tried to go back into the house. Another witness recalled hearing the gunshot and seeing a flash in the hallway.

Investigators were told that Landry attacked Stewart, striking him with a gun several times before firing the fatal shot. Witnesses also described a struggle between Landry and another individual, who ended up falling down the stairs during the altercation.

After the shooting, Landry fled the scene in a Toyota Camry. Fort Eisenhower went into lockdown at 7:50 a.m. as authorities began their search. Using surveillance footage and cellphone tracking, investigators located Landry south of Atlanta on Interstate 85. During a felony traffic stop, deputies said they saw Landry throw a 9mm handgun out of his car window.

According to court filings, Landry admitted to shooting Stewart during questioning. He was taken into custody and transferred to the Lincoln County Jail, which houses federal inmates. Landry is now charged with murder and is set to appear in federal court on Wednesday.

This heartbreaking incident has left many questions and a sense of loss for those involved. Authorities continue to investigate as the community grapples with the tragedy.
