A recent Emerson College poll has unveiled a startling divide among young voters regarding the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The survey indicates that 41% of voters aged 18 to 29 perceive the actions of Luigi Mangione, the alleged perpetrator, as “acceptable.”
The poll further details that within this age group, 24% consider Mangione’s actions “somewhat acceptable,” while 17% deem them “completely acceptable.” In contrast, 40% of young voters find his actions unacceptable. Across all age groups, a majority of 68% view the murder as unacceptable, with only 17% expressing acceptance.
The data also reveals a partisan split: 22% of Democrats and 12% of Republicans find Mangione’s actions acceptable. Gare evident as well, with 19% of men and 14% of women expressing acceptance.
Luigi Mangione, 26, is accused of fatally shooting Thompson, 50, on December 4 in New York City. Thompson was en routng a UnitedHealthcare investor conference at the time. Mangione was apprehended on December 9 at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and has been charged with murder.
