An Ardmore man has been arrested in connection with a chilling North Texas case that has remained unsolved for over three decades. The Plano Police Department announced that 64-year-old Nicholas Ray Carney is now in custody, accused of kidnapping and sexual abuse.
The story dates back to August 1991, when two children were walking to their neighborhood pool in Plano. Tragically, a man abducted one of the children. Hours later, the child was found injured in Garland, and investigators confirmed the child had been sexually assaulted.
For years, the case went cold, but recent advancements in genetic genealogy and forensic science have given investigators a major breakthrough. These efforts led police to Carney, who has also been linked to a similar case in Dallas from 1999.
Plano police expressed their gratitude to the surviving victims for their courage in helping with the investigation. They also believe there could be more victims connected to Carney and are urging anyone with information about other possible crimes to reach out.
