In Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, police have finally arrested a suspect in the tragic hit-and-run that killed a 72-year-old woman over a year ago. The suspect, 34-year-old Joshua Joshi from Staten Island, is now facing serious charges, including criminally negligent homicide and reckless driving.

The heartbreaking incident happened on November 16, 2023, around 6:40 p.m. Anne-Marie Wiesner, a Brooklyn resident, was crossing Marine Avenue near 97th Street when a speeding black sedan struck her. The impact was devastating—she was thrown partially under a parked car, and her shoes were knocked off by the force.

Eyewitness Carlo, who was double-parked nearby, described the horrifying scene. He said Anne-Marie was crossing the street, and though she hesitated when she saw the car coming, she couldn’t get out of the way in time. According to Carlo, it looked like the driver swerved intentionally.

“He hit her so hard she was thrown about 12 to 15 feet,” Carlo recalled. “Her upper body ended up under a parked car. It was terrible to witness.”

Even more shocking, the driver didn’t stop. Carlo said the sedan sped up after the impact. “I could hear the car’s engine revving louder as it disappeared down the block,” he said.

Surveillance footage from the area captured the moments leading up to the crash, showing Anne-Marie cautiously walking across the quiet street. The driver never slowed down.

Anne-Marie was pronounced dead at the scene. It took over a year of investigation, but police have now connected Joshua Joshi to the incident. Authorities haven’t disclosed how they identified him as the driver, but his charges include leaving the scene of an incident and reckless endangerment, among others.

The community remains shaken by the senseless loss of Anne-Marie Wiesner and the violence of that night. Her tragic death serves as a sobering reminder of the consequences of reckless driving.
