Share news:

A heartbreaking tragedy has struck the Azusa community as a young and talented high school senior, Angelina Gonzales, was killed in a violent attack on Friday night, December 20. Angelina, just 17 years old, was well-known at Azusa High School for her incredible artistic skills and active involvement in the cheerleading squad and wrestling team.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. in the 300 block of North Solano Avenue, near Azusa High School’s West Campus. When emergency responders arrived, they found Angelina suffering from multiple stab wounds. Paramedics rushed her to the hospital, but despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead, according to the Azusa Police Department.

Angelina wasn’t just admired for her athleticism; she was also an award-winning artist. Earlier this year, she won first place in the 31st District Congressional Art Competition. In 2022, her artwork earned the Judge’s Choice Award. Her pieces have even been displayed at the U.S. Capitol, a testament to her remarkable talent. The Azusa Unified School District shared their grief in a statement, saying her creative talents and lively spirit brought so much joy to the community.

To help students and families cope with this loss, the district is offering support through Care Solace, a program available at caresolace.com/azusaparents. They’re encouraging anyone who needs help to reach out.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is now leading the investigation into Angelina’s death. On Saturday, an 18-year-old male who knew her was taken into custody. Authorities haven’t shared details about the relationship between the two.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about what happened to come forward. If you know anything, you can contact homicide detectives at 323-890-5500. Tips can also be shared anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.

This devastating loss has left Angelina’s family, friends, and the entire Azusa community mourning a bright young life taken too soon.
