In Seattle’s Rainier Valley neighborhood, a frightening incident unfolded on Monday inside an AT&T store, leaving a man seriously injured. Around 2:30 in the afternoon, a 37-year-old man was stabbed in the chest and rushed to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
Witnesses described the suspect, a 57-year-old man, as someone who seemed to be in distress when he entered the store. Initially, he and the victim were seen having what appeared to be a calm conversation. But things took a sudden and shocking turn when the man in crisis pulled a knife from his jacket and attacked the other man.
The injured man managed to run out of the store to seek help, and paramedics quickly arrived to treat him before transporting him to the hospital. Thankfully, doctors expect him to survive.
Inside the store, the situation remained tense. Police say the suspect tried to force his way into a storage room where employees had taken shelter. Officers arrived shortly after, finding the man still inside. He was arrested without a struggle and is now in custody at King County Jail, facing assault charges.
Adam Mekay, who was nearby when it happened, recalled the chaos. “I heard screaming coming from the plaza. Suddenly, there were police cars everywhere, and I saw them tackle the guy to the ground,” he shared.
While this incident rattled the community, the quick response from police and paramedics likely prevented further harm. Residents are relieved to hear the victim is expected to recover, though the event serves as a reminder of how quickly things can take a turn.
