Here’s what happened: Police in Plano arrested a 49-year-old woman named Zulma Beltran from Richardson on Thursday afternoon around 1 p.m. The arrest came after a hit-and-run incident involving a 12-year-old girl. Beltran is now facing a serious charge—collision involving personal injury, which is a felony.
Let’s rewind to what led to this. On December 10, a troubling video from a security camera captured the moment an SUV hit the young girl as she crossed Westridge Drive on her way to Wilson Middle School. The footage shows what looks like a Buick Enclave hitting the girl, pausing briefly, then backing up and driving away. The girl is thrown several feet and can be heard screaming and crying as she struggles to her feet and limps toward school.
Fortunately, despite the horrifying scene, the girl’s family shared that she wasn’t seriously hurt. She managed to make it to school that morning and reported the incident to her school resource officer.
Beltran was identified as the driver in the video. According to Plano police, she admitted to being involved in the incident and expressed deep regret for leaving the scene without helping the girl.
The police also credited the community for their role in solving the case. Thanks to tips from the public, investigators were able to track down both the vehicle and the driver.
In a statement, Plano police thanked the community for their help, emphasizing the importance of working together to keep streets safe and ensure justice is served.
