In Brooksville, Florida, a 20-year-old living at an adult care facility found himself in serious trouble after allegedly firing a gun at a facility bus on Monday. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident at Hillendale Care Facility on Frampton Avenue around 4:50 p.m.
When deputies arrived, they took Mckenzi Finn, the resident at the center of the situation, into custody. The events leading up to the incident started when Finn asked for a ride to the store. According to the facility manager, the bus driver explained he was already transporting another resident. This upset Finn, and staff suggested he clean his room while they worked on finding another way to get him to the store.
Moments later, as the bus was leaving, Finn reportedly stepped outside with a gun and fired three shots in its direction. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and the bus didn’t appear to be damaged.
Deputies later searched the facility and found the gun hidden in the ceiling of a shared bathroom. Ammunition linked to the firearm was also discovered in Finn’s room.
The situation left neighbors, like Ricky Dummer, shocked. “How did he get a gun inside the facility?” Dummer wondered. “They should be more responsible, especially if it’s a care facility. People shouldn’t have access to weapons there.”
Authorities arrested Finn, who now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, discharging a firearm in public, tampering with evidence, and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.
Investigators noted that Finn has a history of criminal activity. He was previously involved in an aggravated assault case in St. Lucie County, and in 2020, he pleaded no contest to felony burglary in Broward County. Now, he’s being held at the Hernando County Detention Center as the investigation continues.
This incident raises serious questions about safety and security measures at the facility and has left the community concerned.
