On New Year’s Day, New Orleans was rocked by a devastating vehicle-ramming attack that left 10 dead and many others injured. In the aftermath, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) quickly pointed fingers at the Biden administration’s border policies, suggesting that the attack was linked to “wide open borders” and the influx of migrants.
She tweeted: “Terrorist attack in NOLA similar to the one in the German Christmas market. What did we expect with wide open borders and millions of gotaways?” Greene also hinted that the attacker may have crossed the border just days earlier, posting: “New Orleans terrorist attacker is said to have come across the border in Eagle Pass TWO DAYS AGO!!! Shut the border down!!!”
But as the investigation unfolded, it became clear that Greene’s initial conclusions might have been off the mark. Authorities revealed that the suspected attacker, 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was a U.S. citizen born in Texas—not someone who crossed the border illegally. Despite having an ISIS flag on his truck, Jabbar’s ties to the attack are still being investigated, and there are suspicions that he may not have acted alone.
While the motive remains unclear, one person who knew Jabbar expressed shock, calling him “the nicest person I’ve ever known” and saying he was a dedicated father.
The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge. But it’s clear that this tragedy is more complex than initially suggested.
Stay tuned as we continue to follow the story.
