Rudy Giuliani is in hot water once more, this time for contempt of court – his second such ruling in just one week. The former New York mayor and lawyer for Donald Trump is facing serious consequences for the false claims he spread after the 2020 election.
This latest ruling comes from District Judge Beryl Howell, who had had enough of Giuliani’s refusal to stop spreading lies about two Georgia election workers. Even after the workers won a massive $150 million defamation case against him and he agreed to stop slandering them, Giuliani kept pushing the false narrative.
Judge Howell didn’t hold back, calling Giuliani’s actions “outrageous and shameful,” adding that he had the nerve to portray himself as a victim in the case. “It takes real chutzpah,” she said, expressing disbelief at his disregard for previous court orders.
Giuliani wasn’t quiet about the ruling. He went on to tell reporters that he believed Judge Howell wasn’t “American” because she had made up her mind before the hearing. He even compared her to Soviet officials and Nazis – a bold and controversial move.
But it didn’t end there. Judge Howell ordered Giuliani to swear in a statement acknowledging there was no fraud in the 2020 election – a requirement he must complete within 10 days, or he faces a fine of $200 per day. The stakes just got higher for the former mayor.
This legal drama began when Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss revealed the disturbing threats they received after Giuliani spread lies about them during his broadcasts. Those lies have not only cost them emotionally but also financially. Despite settling the defamation suit, Giuliani continues to make false claims, ignoring court orders.
The courts and officials have repeatedly found no evidence of any fraud in Georgia’s 2020 election, but Giuliani continues to push the false narrative. At one point, he claimed he was just telling “the truth,” even if it meant getting sued again.
In a bizarre twist, Giuliani used social media to lash out at the judge before his hearing even started, calling it a “waste of time” and accusing Howell of bias. During the three-hour hearing, he took multiple breaks, even sitting in the courtroom without the judge at one point to go over documents about his assets.
Giuliani also briefly took the witness stand to confirm his financial situation, including details about his $3.5 million Florida condo. His legal team is working hard to defend him, and it seems like this battle is far from over.
Giuliani isn’t out of the woods yet. In a separate case earlier this week, Judge Lewis Liman also found him in contempt for not turning over information to the lawyers of Freeman and Moss. Giuliani could even lose his prized $3.5 million condo and several Yankees World Series rings as part of paying off some of his mounting debts.
Giuliani, now 80, has been dealing with health issues, including knee, heart, and lung problems. Despite these challenges, his spokesperson insists that he still has an “extraordinary record of public service.” However, with each legal misstep, his public image continues to take a hit.
