Share news:

In St. Johnsbury, Vermont, a dramatic turn of events has led to the arrest of five people accused of helping a shooter escape after a police captain was injured in the line of duty. Authorities say these individuals assisted Scott Mason, the man accused of shooting Captain Jason Gray of the St. Johnsbury Police Department.

The arrested include Jonathan Russell, Tisa Russell, William Drew, and Amber Labrecque, all residents of St. Johnsbury. They are facing charges of being accessories by helping Mason hide. Another person, Patrice Mason, who also lives in St. Johnsbury, is being charged with aiding in the shooting and for improperly storing a firearm, which caused serious injuries.

The incident unfolded when Captain Gray responded to a domestic violence call at Scott Mason’s apartment. The call came from a woman claiming that Scott was physically assaulting her. When Captain Gray and other officers arrived at the scene, Mason opened fire, hitting Captain Gray.

The arrests have led to court dates for those involved. Mason, the Russells, and Drew are set to appear for their arraignment on Tuesday, January 21, at 12:30 p.m. at the St. Johnsbury Superior Court. Labrecque’s arraignment is scheduled for February 10 at 8:30 a.m.

This case has left the community shaken, highlighting the dangers faced by police officers and the ripple effects of domestic violence. As the legal process unfolds, residents are watching closely to see justice served.
