An Indiana man is facing murder charges after allegedly killing his wife with a hammer in a shocking and heartbreaking incident. The man, 79-year-old Terry Ogle, called 911 on January 17 to report what had happened at their home in Indianapolis. According to investigators, during the call, he confessed, saying, “I did it,” and that his wife, 76-year-old Mary Ogle, was no longer alive. He added, “Yeah, she’s been down for a while.” When asked if he wanted to perform CPR, he responded, “It’s too late.”
When officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene, they found Mary lying on her back, covered with a blanket, and bleeding from a head injury. Emergency medical responders pronounced her dead at the scene. Terry himself had injuries, including a wound on his left wrist, which appeared to be self-inflicted. He was taken to the hospital for treatment while under police custody.
Court documents revealed that Terry openly admitted to using a hammer to fatally strike his wife. When questioned, he reportedly said, “It’s a long story. I’ve been under depression for a while. So, we weren’t arguing. I just lost it. I think she’s having an affair. So, I lost it.” He even sent a text message to his daughter, confessing, “I’m going to jail. I killed Mary.”
The couple, who both had backgrounds in education, were well-known in their community. The tragedy has left neighbors and local authorities stunned. Tommy Thompson, a public information officer for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police, described the situation as “heartbreaking and gut-wrenching.”
The investigation continues, but this devastating event has shaken the Indianapolis community, leaving many struggling to understand how such a tragedy could unfold.
