A chaotic scene unfolded on State Route 167 in Tacoma, Washington, Friday afternoon when a high-speed crash brought traffic to a standstill just as people were heading into the busy Seattle-area commute. The incident happened south of Ellingson Road in Pacific, a town located south of Auburn.
It all started when a driver, reportedly speeding over 100 miles per hour, caught the attention of Washington State Patrol troopers. When they tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver chose to take off recklessly instead of stopping. The high-speed escape didn’t last long, though—it ended in a crash that left one person injured.
According to Trooper Dattilo, the injured individual was taken to the hospital, and the driver responsible for the chaos was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Thankfully, the crash site was cleared by around 3:20 p.m., but not before it caused long backups for frustrated drivers.
This reckless act serves as another reminder of the dangers of speeding and impaired driving. Thankfully, no lives were lost, but the disruption was significant, especially for those stuck in the afternoon traffic heading into Seattle.
