Driver Blames Crash on a Kiss Gone Wrong in Stafford County Hit-and-Run

Share news:

In Stafford County, Virginia, a late-night hit-and-run crash on Saturday took an unexpected turn when the driver blamed it on an unusual distraction: trying to kiss his passenger. The incident unfolded near the intersection of Richmond Highway and Burns Corner around 11:15 p.m., according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

It all started when a white Ford Ranger rear-ended another vehicle. After the crash, the truck driver reportedly pleaded with the other driver not to call the police. But instead of sticking around to sort things out, he drove off.

Thankfully, authorities didn’t take long to find the suspect. When deputies stopped him, they immediately noticed signs that he had been drinking. He admitted to having two margaritas earlier that evening, and deputies also discovered open containers of alcohol in his vehicle. Despite all this, the man insisted the crash happened because he was distracted while leaning in to kiss his passenger.

After further investigation, deputies charged him with driving under the influence, noting his blood alcohol content was between .15 and .2—well over the legal limit. He also faced charges for drinking while driving and fleeing the scene of a crash.

The driver was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he stayed until he sobered up. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and how distractions, even bizarre ones, can have serious consequences.
