Storm Alert: Back-to-Back Systems Set to Shake the U.S.

Share news:

The United States is bracing for another round of severe weather as three powerful storms are set to strike back-to-back. These storms will bring heavy snow, ice, and rain to areas already recovering from previous storms. People in affected regions should prepare for dangerous conditions, power outages, and travel disruptions.

Storm 1 – Hitting the Plains and East Coast

The first storm is expected to hit the central U.S. on Monday night before moving towards the East Coast on Tuesday. Unlike the storms from last week, this one is tracking further south, meaning areas that previously avoided snowfall might now be directly impacted.

The Appalachian Mountain region, parts of the mid-Atlantic, and the southernmost parts of the Northeast will experience snow and freezing rain through Wednesday morning. Some areas, including West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina, could see up to a quarter-inch of ice accumulation. This could lead to widespread power outages and hazardous travel conditions.

Major cities like Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, and New Jersey may receive up to six inches of snow, while New York City could see about one to two inches. In the South, states such as Texas and the Carolinas will face heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of flooding.

Storm 2 – More Snow and Ice for the Midwest and Northeast

Before the first storm has fully passed, the second storm will form over the Great Plains on Tuesday and move eastward by Wednesday. This system is expected to bring another round of snow and ice, tracking slightly north compared to the first storm.

By Thursday morning, the Northeast will be covered in fresh snow, while ice could worsen conditions in many areas. Some regions may only have a short break between the two storms. Chicago, in particular, could see its heaviest snowfall of the season, with snow accumulation reaching double-digit inches.

Meanwhile, the Midwest and Plains will also be dealing with a significant ice storm, further complicating travel and daily activities. This storm is expected to weaken by Thursday night.

Storm 3 – Slamming California Before Moving East

Unlike the first two, the third storm will take a different route. It is expected to hit California on Thursday, bringing heavy rainfall that could cause severe flooding. Southern California, which is already struggling after January’s deadly wildfires, is at high risk. The rain may wash debris from burn areas, creating dangerous mudflows and flash floods.

Over 34 million Californians are under flood warnings, and the heavy rain will continue to spread inland as the storm moves east. By Saturday morning, the storm will reach the central U.S., gaining strength and expanding in size. Snowfall is expected in the Midwest on Saturday and the Northeast by Sunday evening. This storm will also bring ice and thunderstorms in some warmer regions before finally dissipating on Monday morning.

More Storms Could Be Coming

After these three storms, another winter system might form in the middle of next week, extending the period of extreme weather. So far, over 200 million people are under weather alerts, and that number may increase as forecasts develop.

What to Expect and How to Prepare

  • Snow and Ice: Many regions will face heavy snowfall and dangerous ice accumulation, making travel difficult and increasing the risk of power outages.
  • Flooding: Heavy rain in the South and along the West Coast may cause severe flooding, especially in areas affected by recent wildfires.
  • Power Outages: Ice accumulation on trees and power lines could lead to widespread blackouts.
  • Travel Disruptions: Road conditions will be hazardous, and flight cancellations are expected in many affected areas.

Officials are urging residents to stay updated on weather alerts, stock up on essentials, and avoid unnecessary travel. The coming days will be challenging, but preparation can help reduce risks and keep people safe.
