A tragic accident took place in Bannockburn this week when a 1-year-old boy drowned in a home’s indoor pool. Authorities identified the child as Noah Probst from Peotone.
The incident happened at a house in the 1900 block of Half Day Road, a northern suburb of Chicago. According to the Lake County coroner’s office, the little boy was found in the pool and had drowned.
Emergency responders, including the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Department and Bannockburn Police Department, rushed to the scene around 2 p.m. on Monday after receiving a call about a drowning child.
Firefighters and paramedics performed life-saving measures at the home, trying to revive Noah. He was then taken to Highland Park Hospital for further treatment. Sadly, despite their best efforts, he passed away in the emergency room.
Authorities are still looking into how the accident happened, but at this time, they do not believe foul play was involved. The Bannockburn Police Department is leading the investigation to understand more about the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental deaths among young children. Safety experts urge families with pools to always have barriers, such as locked gates or safety covers, and to closely supervise children at all times when near water. Even small indoor pools can pose serious risks if proper precautions are not taken.
This heartbreaking event is a reminder of the importance of water safety, especially for young children. The community mourns the loss of Noah Probst, and authorities will continue their investigation to determine if any additional safety measures could have prevented this unfortunate accident.
