The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office has announced that one of the two individuals involved in a high-speed chase last week is now facing multiple felony charges. Deputies have charged 25-year-old Raymond Novak of Jacksonville with a total of nine offenses, including larceny of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, and fleeing to elude arrest.
The incident occurred last Thursday when deputies identified Novak’s BMW as a vehicle of interest in connection to the theft of a firearm from Hollywood Pawn and Jewelry in Jacksonville earlier that day. When officers spotted the vehicle near Ramsey Road and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Novak refused to pull over, leading deputies on a high-speed pursuit. The chase reached speeds between 110 and 115 miles per hour before Novak’s vehicle veered off the road near Ramsey Road and W T Whitehead Drive, bringing the pursuit to an end.
Following the chase, deputies conducted a search of Novak’s vehicle. They recovered the stolen firearm along with another firearm registered to Novak. Additionally, authorities found approximately 32 grams of suspected fentanyl, 13 grams of crack cocaine, and nine oxycodone pills inside the vehicle.
Novak was taken into custody and transported to the Onslow County Detention Center, where he was booked under a $32,000 secured bond. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the extent of Novak’s involvement in other potential criminal activities. The sheriff’s office continues to urge residents to report any suspicious activity to help maintain community safety.
