Authorities in Texas announced on Monday that they stopped a potential “mass casualty attack” by arresting a suspect accused of making threats against police officers.
The Corpus Christi Police Department confirmed that 21-year-old Seth “Andrea” Gregori was taken into custody on Monday morning on a warrant for making terroristic threats.
Investigation and Arrest
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was informed about Gregori’s threats targeting Corpus Christi police officers. After investigating, the FBI obtained an arrest warrant and worked with local authorities to take Gregori into custody.
According to the FBI’s Houston office, Gregori allegedly planned an attack similar to the 2016 ambush in Dallas. That tragic event resulted in the deaths of five police officers and injuries to seven others when a shooter, Micah Xavier Johnson, targeted law enforcement. Johnson, a former U.S. Army reservist, expressed anger towards police officers and was ultimately killed when authorities used a bomb robot to stop him.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have not yet revealed additional details about Gregori’s case. It is unclear how far the suspect had progressed in the planning of the attack or if any weapons were involved.
The Nueces County District Attorney’s Office stated that, as of now, no formal charges have been filed against Gregori. Additionally, it is not yet known whether the suspect has obtained legal representation.
Public Safety Concerns
The arrest of Gregori highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to prevent violent attacks before they happen. The FBI and local police continue to monitor potential threats, especially those targeting law enforcement personnel.
Authorities encourage the public to report any suspicious activity to help prevent acts of violence.
This case is still developing, and more information is expected as the investigation continues.
