EXCLUSIVE: Mobile Man Arrested After Brutal Attack on Girlfriend in Robertsdale

Share news:

Robertsdale, AL – A 26-year-old Mobile man has been arrested weeks after allegedly breaking into his girlfriend’s apartment and brutally attacking her in a horrifying case of domestic violence.

According to investigators, Wakeylon Briner forced his way into his girlfriend’s Robertsdale apartment on February 2. When she returned home, police say he immediately assaulted her—punching, kicking, and strangling her.

A concerned neighbor, alarmed by the disturbing sounds, called the police, which may have prevented an even worse outcome. “It’s quite possible that situation could have escalated,” said Lieutenant Paul Overstreet of the Robertsdale Police Department.

Briner managed to evade police at the scene, escaping through a two-story window. It wasn’t until February 25 that authorities finally caught up with him and took him into custody at Baldwin County Jail.

Just three days after the attack, the victim filed for a protection order, stating that she “fears for her life.” She provided photos of her injuries—bruises and scratches on her neck—as well as screenshots showing Briner repeatedly calling her. Disturbingly, she also claimed he threatened to return for her after police intervened.

In addition to the domestic violence strangulation charge, Briner is also facing second-degree burglary charges for allegedly stealing items from the victim’s apartment. His bond has been set at $20,000.

Advocates warn that domestic violence often escalates without intervention. “Don’t allow an abuser to isolate the victim,” urged Rhyon Ervin, Executive Director of The Lighthouse, a Baldwin County nonprofit supporting abuse survivors.

For those in need of help, resources are available. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, call 1-800-787-3224 or visit The Lighthouse website. In Mobile County, support is also available through Penelope House.
