TUCSON, Ariz. – A man convicted in a deadly Tucson crash years ago has died in prison, according to the Arizona Department of Corrections (ADOC).
Authorities confirmed that 37-year-old Guadalupe M. Barrios passed away on Thursday, February 27, at the La Palma Correctional Center in Eloy. The cause of death remains under investigation, and officials have stated that more details will be released as they become available.
Barrios was serving time for fleeing the scene of a fatal accident. The crash, which occurred in September 2019 near Golf Links and Swan in midtown Tucson, resulted in the death of 29-year-old Davis Ochoa-Borquez.
Investigators reported that Barrios was driving a silver 2000 Nissan Sentra at high speed when he lost control and crashed into a utility pole. The impact split the vehicle in half, sending the front portion through a chain-link fence near a Border Patrol station while the back half remained on the roadway. Ochoa-Borquez was ejected from the car and died at the scene.
Following the crash, Barrios fled but was later arrested and convicted. His sudden death in prison has raised questions, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding it.
