In a heartbreaking turn of events, a 17-year-old boy from Waukesha, Wisconsin, has been arrested in Kansas after his mother and stepfather were found dead at their home. Nikita “Niki” Casap, 17, appeared in court for the first time on Monday following his arrest in WaKeeney, Kansas, as he faces charges related to the deaths of his parents, Tatiana Casap and Donald Mayer.
Authorities were prompted to conduct a welfare check after the teenager had been absent from school for two weeks, a significant departure from his previously perfect attendance record. A school resource officer, along with Judith Mayer, the suspect’s grandmother, requested the check. Upon arrival, police discovered the bodies of the victim couple with signs of a violent crime, including dried blood at the scene.
Nikita Casap was not at home when authorities arrived, leaving with a gun and the family’s dog in the vehicle. Police tracked his phone across several states, from Illinois to Colorado, before eventually pulling him over in Kansas on Saturday. During the traffic stop, Casap was arrested, and evidence related to the case was recovered.
While Casap has not been charged in connection with the deaths of his parents, he faces charges for stealing the family vehicle and other property. His grandmother, Judith Mayer, is struggling to come to terms with the possibility that her grandson could be responsible for such a tragedy.
A hearing has been scheduled for March 17 to ensure the suspect is returned to Wisconsin for further proceedings. The tragic loss has left family members and the community devastated, and the investigation continues.
