Mt. Healthy, OH – A tense overnight standoff at a Mt. Healthy apartment complex ended early Monday when a gunman was taken into custody without injury, according to police.
Authorities say 29-year-old Tony J. Brown Jr. fired a gun into the air late Sunday night during a dispute in the parking lot of an apartment building on Clovernook Drive. The altercation involved the mother of his 2-year-old son. Following the gunfire, Brown retreated into the woman’s apartment, where he refused to come out. Inside the residence were his 2-year-old son and two 10-year-old girls who do not reside there.
Mt. Healthy police responded to the scene at 10:22 p.m. and, upon learning of the situation, called in the Hamilton County Police Association SWAT team for assistance.
After hours of negotiation, SWAT officers forced entry into the apartment just before 2 a.m. Brown ultimately surrendered without further incident and was taken into custody. He was handcuffed, placed into a police SUV, and transported to the Hamilton County Justice Center.
Brown is now facing multiple charges, including kidnapping, inducing panic, discharging a firearm in a prohibited area, and possession of a weapon under disability. Authorities have confirmed that he is expected to appear in court at 9 a.m. Monday.
The situation ended without injuries, but police continue their investigation into the events leading up to the standoff.
