A man has been arrested in connection to a deadly shooting that happened on New Year’s Eve in Louisville’s Algonquin neighborhood. Police say the incident unfolded early in the morning on South 13th Street and ended with a tragic loss of life.

Officers were called to the 1600 block of South 13th Street just after 4:15 a.m. on December 31. When they got there, they found a man who had been shot. Emergency crews arrived soon after but, sadly, pronounced him dead at the scene. The victim was identified as Quante Burris.

Investigators say the events leading to the shooting began with an argument between Burris and his girlfriend. According to reports, the girlfriend called several people to try to get Burris to leave the area. Among those who showed up was Robert Handley, along with several others. Things escalated into a fight, and during the confrontation, Burris was shot.

Police were able to identify Handley as the shooter thanks to a witness who provided a detailed and recorded statement. This key evidence helped officers track him down.

On Thursday, members of the Louisville Metro Police Department, including the Homicide Unit, Criminal Interdiction Division, and SWAT team, worked together to arrest Handley. He is now facing charges of murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

The investigation is ongoing, but police believe they have a clear picture of what happened that morning. It’s a tragic start to the new year for the community, and officials are continuing to piece together the details.
