An Atlanta business owner is still shaken after a frightening incident involving a former employee. Chef Tim Morgan, the owner of Tim Morgan Catering, says he’s been struggling to sleep after what happened—and he’s not the only one.
“I haven’t slept in the last 48 hours,” Morgan shared. “One of my employees even called out today because they’re scared.”
It all started last Thursday when Morgan decided to fire Harrita Benton, an employee who he says didn’t show up for a scheduled event. He explained that her contract was being terminated and asked her to return her uniform and building keys the following morning.
But things didn’t go as planned. Morgan says Benton didn’t show up until later that evening. When she did, it was clear she had other intentions.
“She still had a key to the building. She came in dressed for trouble—wearing a hoodie, sweatpants, and tennis shoes. She also had a pistol in her waistband,” Morgan said. “Her intention was to kill me.”
Morgan described how the terrifying moment unfolded, saying his life flashed before his eyes. Thankfully, another employee stepped in just in time. Instead of things escalating further, Benton stole Morgan’s phone and ran off.
The situation didn’t end there. Benton was arrested later that night and is now facing charges of simple battery and theft by taking. She’s currently booked in Fulton County Jail.
While Benton is in custody, the incident has left a lasting impact on Morgan and his team. Many of his employees are scared, and the chef has decided to hire additional security to make everyone feel safer.
“This isn’t something you just get over,” Morgan admitted. “But I’m doing what I can to protect my team.”
