Babysitter Found Passed Out Drunk as Toddler Roams Alone in Freezing Cold

Share news:

A shocking incident in Brigantine, New Jersey, has left many parents questioning the trustworthiness of babysitters. A woman hired to look after a toddler was found passed out drunk inside the family’s home while the child was spotted wandering alone outside in the cold.

The story began when a neighbor, noticing the little boy walking around the neighborhood crying, stepped in to help. It was freezing outside, and the kind neighbor immediately brought the child inside to keep him safe. While on the phone with 911, the neighbor walked the boy back to his home, where they made a disturbing discovery—the babysitter, 35-year-old Jena Davidson, was unconscious on the floor, reeking of alcohol.

The toddler’s parents were both at work at the time, but the boy’s father saw his son outside through their Ring camera app. Panicked, he called the neighbor, who then found the child and called for help. The neighbor’s call to emergency services was chilling: “The babysitter is out. On the floor. I need an ambulance.”

According to Brigantine Police, Davidson had consumed a large amount of alcohol from the family’s home, enough to leave her completely unresponsive. When officers arrived, they reported a strong smell of alcohol in the home. They also found a coffee mug with alcohol on the counter and an empty shot bottle in Davidson’s bag. She was taken to the hospital for basic medical care.

Thankfully, the boy was unharmed, and his neighbors cared for him until his parents could rush home.

The parents had found Davidson through a babysitting website called Nanny Lane. Davidson had also listed her services on another platform, Mom Trusted. Nanny Lane confirmed that Davidson had signed up on their site over a year ago but only used it briefly. Although her profile remained visible, the platform said they had blocked her from further use. They also reminded families that their membership includes background checks and strongly recommended that parents use this service.

Davidson now faces a serious charge of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. The incident serves as a reminder for parents to be extra cautious when selecting someone to care for their children.
