Two men, Jordan Willis and Ivory Carson, have been charged in connection with the deaths of three Kansas City Chiefs fans. The victims, Ricky Johnson (38), Clayton McGeeney (36), and David Harrington (37), were found dead in the backyard of Willis’ home on January 9, 2024—two days after they had gathered to watch a Chiefs game.
Willis and Carson are facing three counts of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of drug distribution. The case gained widespread attention on social media, with many speculating about what happened that night. Their bond has been set at $100,000 cash only.
Events Leading Up to the Tragedy
According to the investigation, the three friends were using cocaine when they got together to watch the Kansas City Chiefs play the Los Angeles Chargers on January 7, 2024. Witnesses stated that Willis often shared cocaine with friends when they couldn’t afford it and that he had purchased the drugs from Carson.
A forensic lab later determined that the combination of fentanyl and cocaine caused their deaths. Authorities believe that the victims may not have been aware that the cocaine they used was laced with fentanyl, a highly potent opioid.
Willis’ Defense
Willis’ attorney, John Picerno, argued that there is no proof that Willis provided the drugs that led to the deaths. He also claimed that Willis didn’t know his friends were still in his backyard or that they needed medical help until the police arrived.
“It’s been an incredibly difficult year for Jordan,” Picerno said. “He’s lost his job, his home, and his friends. The public sees him as responsible for their deaths, but that’s not the truth.”
Willis told investigators that he thought his friends had left his home around 4 a.m. on January 8. Weather records show that temperatures dropped to 33°F (1°C) that night, which may have contributed to their deaths.
Carson’s Connection
Carson admitted to selling cocaine to Johnson, Willis, Harrington, and McGeeney before January 1, 2024. However, there are no court records indicating whether he has an attorney at this time.
Public Reaction and Viral Attention
Since the tragedy, the case has gone viral on social media, particularly on TikTok, where many users have speculated about what really happened. The victims’ families have also spoken out, questioning why it took so long for charges to be filed.
The investigation is ongoing, and the case continues to spark debate over drug use, accountability, and justice.
