Banking Alert! Chase to Temporarily Shut Down All U.S. Locations

Share news:

Chase Bank has announced that all 4,700 of its locations will be closed for 24 hours on Monday in honor of Presidents’ Day, a federal holiday that many people overlook. Chase is not the only bank shutting down—other major banks like Wells Fargo, Citi Bank, and more will also be closed for the day.

Even though bank branches won’t be open, customers can still use online banking and ATMs. This means you can check your balance, pay bills, and transfer money digitally. However, if you need in-person services, such as speaking to a teller or making deposits inside the bank, you’ll have to wait until Tuesday when branches reopen.

Will Other Services Be Affected?

Banks are not the only ones observing the holiday. Government offices, including the Post Office, will also be closed. Additionally, the stock market will not be open for trading on Monday.

However, most businesses, including grocery stores, restaurants, and retail stores, will remain open unless a specific location decides to give employees the day off. Public schools in many areas may also be closed for the holiday.

If you need to complete important banking tasks that require a teller, you should do so before Monday or wait until Tuesday. Transactions such as check deposits and money transfers may also take longer to process, with some not going through until the next business day.

What is Presidents’ Day?

Presidents’ Day is a federal holiday that falls on the third Monday of February each year. It was originally known as Washington’s Birthday, as it was meant to honor the first U.S. president, George Washington, who was born on February 22. However, in 1971, the holiday was moved to the third Monday in February under the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.

Over time, the holiday became known as Presidents’ Day because it is also close to the birthday of another famous president, Abraham Lincoln, who was born on February 12. Today, it is seen as a day to honor all U.S. presidents, past and present.

In 2025, Presidents’ Day will be observed on February 17, right between Washington’s and Lincoln’s birthdays.

If you need to take care of any banking matters, be sure to plan ahead, as all banks will be closed on this federal holiday.
