Honolulu, HI (HNN) – A 22-year-old man was arrested in Waikiki after allegedly recording or photographing another man in a private setting without consent, according to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD).
Authorities say the incident took place early Sunday morning around 8:30 a.m. The suspect is accused of secretly capturing footage of a 37-year-old man while he was in a state of undress at an undisclosed location.
HPD launched an investigation, leading to the suspect’s arrest approximately seven hours after the alleged act. He was taken into custody and booked for Violation of Privacy in the First Degree, a serious offense under Hawaii law.
As of now, police have not disclosed further details regarding the circumstances of the incident or the exact location where it occurred.
This case raises renewed concerns over privacy rights and the growing risks of unauthorized recordings in public and private spaces. Legal experts emphasize that Hawaii’s privacy laws impose strict penalties on individuals who invade another person’s personal space through unauthorized recordings or photographs.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not yet confirmed whether additional charges will be filed.
