GROVE HILL, AL—Two federal inmates at Clarke County Jail are facing serious charges after allegedly inciting a riot and causing significant damage to jail property.
Vincent Parnell Sandifer, 25, and Ty’Juan De’Andre Barnes, 21, both from Mobile, have been charged with inciting a riot and first-degree criminal mischief. The incident occurred on February 5, when the men allegedly stirred up unrest while being moved between cell blocks. Prosecutors claim their actions risked the safety of corrections deputies and threatened the possibility of an escape.
Additionally, the two men are accused of causing $2,700 in damage to a sprinkler system at the jail just two days later. Their preliminary hearing, initially scheduled for March 5, has been postponed until March 19.
Sandifer, who previously pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, is awaiting sentencing for a crime that could send him to prison for up to life. He also faces pending charges related to a car chase in Mobile. Barnes, on the other hand, pleaded guilty in January to illegal possession of a machine gun and is set for sentencing in May.
The charges highlight ongoing tensions at the jail and raise concerns about safety and security in correctional facilities.
