A scary situation unfolded in Oconee County, South Carolina, on Monday morning when employees at a plant in West Union had to be evacuated due to a bomb threat. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office quickly responded to the incident to ensure everyone’s safety.
It all started at 9:28 a.m. when the E-911 Communications Center got a call from the Itron plant, located on Highway 11. Someone had called the plant claiming there was an explosive device on the premises. Naturally, this sparked immediate concern, and as a precaution, the plant was evacuated. Safety protocols kicked in right away, and employees were transported to a safe location using CATbus services.
The response from local authorities was swift and thorough. Teams from Oconee County Emergency Services, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, the State Law Enforcement Division, and the West Union Police Department all rushed to the scene to help manage the situation.
As the hours went by, specially trained explosive detection dogs were brought in to carefully search the area. Thankfully, by 1:13 p.m., the employees were given the all-clear to return to the facility.
While the situation was undoubtedly nerve-wracking for everyone involved, the coordinated efforts of law enforcement and safety agencies ensured that everything was handled professionally and calmly.
