Killeen, Texas – A shocking incident unfolded at the Killeen Mall on Saturday evening when a man drove his vehicle straight through the mall’s glass doors, injuring five people. The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the situation escalated as law enforcement was chasing the man around 5 p.m.
The chaos began when the man drove into the JC Penney store, hitting several people in his path. Authorities confirmed that five people were injured, with some of the injuries being very serious. Four of the victims were rushed to the hospital directly from the scene, while the fifth managed to get medical care by traveling in a personal vehicle.
After crashing into the store, the man abandoned the truck and tried to make a run for it. However, law enforcement from multiple agencies confronted him. In the end, officers fired shots, fatally wounding the man. His name has not yet been released to the public.
Authorities were quick to address rumors that had spread on social media during the incident. They clarified that, despite the panic and confusion, there was never an active shooter situation at the mall.
