Conan O’Brien is set to host the 2025 Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced. This will be Conan’s first time hosting the prestigious event, after two years with Jimmy Kimmel in the role.
In a funny statement, Conan joked, “America demanded it and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars.”
The 97th Academy Awards will take place on March 2, 2025, in Hollywood.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang shared their excitement, saying Conan is the perfect choice to bring his humor, love for movies, and live TV skills to the Oscars.
“His ability to connect with audiences will bring everyone together to celebrate the incredible films and filmmakers of this year,” they said.
Conan, who is 61, has a long career in television. He’s an Emmy-winning writer and producer, known for hosting shows like Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, and Conan.
He also worked as a writer for Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons. On top of that, he’s hosted the Emmy Awards twice, the MTV Movie Awards, and even the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. These days, Conan has a popular podcast called Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.
There were reports that Jimmy Kimmel and comedian John Mulaney both turned down offers to host this year’s Oscars. Other stars, like Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, and Dwayne Johnson, were also considered for the job, according to Deadline.
