A mother has been questioned by police after her six-year-old daughter was found dead in a bathtub filled with water.
Authorities arrived at a home on Elton Street in Brooklyn, New York City, around 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Inside, they found the young girl unconscious and unresponsive in the bathtub. According to reports, the tub was full of water, and the child had blood clots in her eyes, suggesting she may have been submerged for a long time. Emergency responders rushed her to Brookdale University Medical Center, but she was sadly pronounced dead.
So far, no one has been charged, but police are treating the case as suspicious. The girl’s mother was taken away in handcuffs and questioned by investigators.
The girl’s father, a local grocery store manager, did not show up for work that day. His coworker, Emmanuel Pichado, shared that he received a concerning text from him. The message reportedly said, “Somebody killed my daughter,” and expressed that he was feeling overwhelmed. Pichado described the father as a good person and said the situation was heartbreaking.
Reports indicate that the girl’s father and grandfather may have been present when police and paramedics arrived. Neighbor Helen Cunningham, 74, recalled seeing medics carry the girl’s body out under a white sheet. She described the scene, saying the child’s head and hands were visible, almost as if she were hiding. She also saw the father get into an ambulance behind the one carrying his daughter. Later, she saw police escort the mother out of the house in handcuffs.
At this time, police have not released many details about the case. The NYPD stated that questioning the mother was part of their standard procedure. The investigation is ongoing, and an autopsy will determine the cause of the child’s death.
